Environment
Our priority is to recover mobile phones from the waste stream and find the most cost effective and energy efficient method to introduce them back into the market. If a handset can be reused, then the recycling process (which carries its own environmental impact) can easily be avoided.
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is a European law designed to encourage and regulate the collection, reuse, recycling and recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment. >http://www.netregs.gov.uk/netregs/topics/WEEE/default.aspx
The WEEE regulations came into force on 1st July 2007, which classed all surplus mobile phones as WEEE and therefore must be reused and recycled in a responsible and compliant way. As a dedicated mobile phone recycler, EMC is appointed as an approved authorised treatment facility (AATF) by the DTI and Environment Agency, which means that we are authorised to provide our customers with our simple and efficient environmentally sustainable buy-back services.
These objectives have not only shaped our service but allowed us to develop sustainable environmental solutions for our customers, which not only recover a financial value, but also fulfil the requirements of the WEEE regulations.
